Polysorbate-20 is the ingredient used, most commonly, to convert Oil Based Fragrance to Water Based. Oil Based fragrances are used in products with an oil base (like candles). Water based fragrances are used in products with a water base like lotions, bath gel, etc. Polysorbate-20 bonds to the oil molecules suspending them in a water based solution and helps to keep water based solutions clear (not cloudy).
To convert an oil based fragrance to water based simply premix the fragrance with Polysorbate-20 (Available at Craftlobby.com). Craftlobby's Water Based Fragrances are mixed 3 to 1 (or one part fragrance oil to 2 parts Polysorbate-20).
For lotions you can use a 1 to 1 mix (or one part fragrance oil to one part Polysorbate-20).
For Bath Gel, shampoo's and lotion a 3 to 1 (one part fragrance oil to 2 parts Polysorbate-20) works well. This should also work in most body sprays and air freshner bases.
Sometimes, however, depending on the fragrance, clear solutions like body spray and air freshner may require a 1 to 5 mix (one part fragrance oil to 4 parts Polysorbate). NOTE: Always premix the fragrance and Polysorbate before adding to the base. It is best to experiment with a small amount of base before committing it entirely to a particular fragrance.
